About Held...

Hi! I’m Jennifer.First and foremost, I am a daughter of Christ. I’m also the wife of Elijah — a dedicated husband, father, roofer, and seminary student. Together, the Lord has blessed us with four beautiful daughters. With the birth of each of my children, the Lord placed a deep desire on my heart to support women during this sacred season of life. My goal is for every client I serve to have a birth story they are joyful and excited to share, even if it didn't go as planned. My beliefs and convictions surrounding birth have been shaped over the years through my own birth experiences, attending the births of others, research, education and prayer.I pray the Lord continues to use me to bless the women and families in my community with grace, gentleness, and steadfast support during some of life’s most vulnerable and transformative moments.Galations 2:20
Philosophies of birth
Birth is beautiful & complex, designed by a perfect Creator.A normal physiological birth (not induced or medicated) is usually best left alone, but sometimes needs a little help.Ancient skills of maternal positioning and movements based off labor patterns as well as fetal positioning should be the first intervention when "a little help" is needed.Natural oxytocin is crucial to ensure a safe & efficient labor & delivery. Fostering oxytocin should be the focus of all members of a birth team.We live in a fallen world meaning emergencies do happen & maternal exhaistion is real. Here is where I am extremely grateful for modern medicine, skilled providers and trained surgeons!

Testimonials

“Having Jennifer be part of my baby’s birth is something I will forever be grateful for. I knew I wanted to have extra support during my first labor and birth experience, and I couldn’t have asked for a better doula to be at my side during the most intense and wonderful moments of my life.Jen has an innate wisdom, caring presence and calming energy that were all so appreciated during labor. And not only did she provide encouragement and guidance when I needed it during my labor, but she was available in the hours and days following the birth to check in on us and offer support then too. There is something powerful about having someone in the room who has brought life into the world before you — they understand exactly what you’re going through, and now, they’re holding you in love while you do the same. I absolutely loved having Jen as my birth doula, and look forward to hiring her again for my next baby!”

"Jennifer has been such a blessing to me in supporting me as I entered motherhood. Jennifer was my doula for my first birth and helped guide me during pregnancy towards the right birth class and even the right provider for me. She also helped me learn so much about what to eat to care well for myself! There were so many things that felt so overwhelming when I found out I was pregnant. The Lord used her even more when my planned homebirth went quicker than expected and he brought her there an hour before I gave birth to my firstborn son with no provider there yet, just her, my husband and my parents. She brought so much calm to my labor with her experience and the way she spoke with hope & truth. She physically held me when I delivered our sweet boy so that my husband could catch the baby which was my desire. After the delivery she was so quick to guide us in the next steps until the midwife arrived. By God's grace there was no fear in our hearts, and I do believe she played a huge role in that. She made me feel confident as a first mom because of her praise and affirmation. That being said it was obviously a no brainer to have her as my diula again at my second birth. There she equally supported me by setting the atmosphere, feeding me nourshing foods, capturing photos, and even nurturing me with a meal in those following weeks. I am so thankful for her support, and for always being willing to answer all my questions! She has such a passion to hep women see the beauty in birth."

postpartum doula package
Serving as a postpartum doula has a special place in my heart. My first postpartum was CHAOS. I very frequently think back on that experience and what stands out to me was the support I had- my mother! She silently showed up. She set up my sitz bath, did dozens of loads of laundry, cooked us food, cleaned our bathroom, changed our sheets, vacuumed- the list goes on. She was a tender ear for when I needed to process the pain & overwhealm. She did the little things and it meant everything. She made me feel HELD in some of my hardest days. So, HELD's postpartum care is inspired by my mother. Please note, in any effort to keep these rates low, I am currently only offering postpartum services to the Lewisville, Clemmons, Yadkinville, Central Winston-Salem & South East Bend areas.

HELD strongly recommends to all clients that they take an evidence-based childbirth class. Especially if they are first time parents.I currently recommend the In-Person Childbirth Class taught by Kayla with Surrendered Birth Services in Kernersville. This is a 5 week course that will fully prepare any parent for birth, pregnancy & postpartum. For those who cannot commit to an extended class like this and still prefer something in-person, HELD is offering a 1 day in-home "Mini Course". It's a one and done that can be scheduled on weekends or as desired. This course will last 2.5 - 3.5 hours and will include the following.
